If I had to make some Wes Anderson collection, I would entitle it "The Intricately Arranged Misadventures of Various Ultra-rich Asshole Families".

Like, I still don't get why his movies are "good", please tell me why... I just can't figure it out. I sat through the movie, and didn't really dislike any part, and laughed a few times, but tons of assholes were like cracking up for no reason... and I hate them. All the laughter in that theatre was so smug... but that's not Wes Anderson's fault per se, I was at the lammelleelele in pasadena after all.

Still, the main things I experience from his films are a nice bit of escapism into a visually pretty world where wacky shit happens to quirky people, but I'm constantly nagged by thoughts of how they're all assholes and how their problems don't interest me. Basically I feel like it's a cartoon... that is, the characters have no depth... they aren't simple, I'm not saying that -- they're certainly complex, but they aren't human, they're just intricate facades like the backgrounds he obviously puts so much time into.

Okay, that's my rant, mainly motivated by feeling left out of this whole Wes Anderson experience that so many people seem into... feel free to enlighten me, I could very well just be missing the point.
